According to the report, Gen Z young adults are finding it increasingly difficult to remain optimistic about their economic prospects. Tashianna Allen, a 25-year-old paraprofessional from Minnesota, shared her perspective, saying, "Ever since 2020, I just feel like it goes downhill from here." This sentiment is echoed by many in the younger generation, who have witnessed a steady deterioration of their financial security and the growing barriers to achieving traditional milestones, such as homeownership.

Millennials' Uphill Battle

The report also highlights the struggles of Millennials, who despite working full-time and sharing living arrangements with friends, have found it increasingly challenging to keep up with the rising costs of essential expenses. Jami Mistic, 26, and Courtney Kujala, 27, both expressed frustration with their inability to comfortably pay bills and afford groceries in recent years. Mistic emphasized the disconnect between their perceived middle-class status and the reality of their financial pressures, stating, "I've been 'middle class' my entire life, but I haven't felt that way."

The most recent consumer price index (CPI) report showed that prices climbed 0.2% in July from the previous month and 2.9% from the same time last year, although the report marked the lowest level of inflation since March 2021.
